ART GALLERY
The art gallery is adjacent to the restaurant. It is in one of the oldest buildings on Nacht Wacht, dating back to the early 1700's. I've tried to keep the feel of the gallery as original as possible and the result is an old stable with original floors, doors and even the feeding cribs still intact. The gallery is surrounded by a beautiful, tranquil farm landscape, a real work of art!
Art is another great passion of mine. A house without a painting is like a body without a soul. I do not have any formal training but every Tuesday I go to Swellendam for an art class. Originally from Swellendam, it is the perfect place for me to paint. Everything is so peaceful there. Even though I do have a studio at home, there are too many distractions here, like my children and the restaurant!
I get my inspiration mainly from nature. My art is a wonderful spiritual experience. Looking at a beautiful landscape or seascape, you realize how amazing God is and how small mankind is. Every time I sell a painting, it is like giving away a little piece of myself. Last year I had the privilege to visit the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsy, and it was amazing to see the work of the great masters. My favourites are Degas, Matisse and Van Gogh. Recently I tried my hand at nudes. I find it wonderful to work with the human body.
